Well, I didn’t get a chance to post last week, but I did 18 miles. It’s basically the same route as this week but instead of turning left at mile 16, I turned right and ran 2 miles home. This week was a milestone in my training. That being that I’M DONE!!!! No more long runs until the race and then, after that, I probably won’t run for a month. I’ll lay off and probably start swimming again. Anyway, I too tired to keep typing, so here’s the map:

Thanks for all those who have kept up with it! I run the race in 2 weeks.

That’s right. Six-freakin’-teen miles. Did intervals of 10 minute run and 1 minute walks. Wore me out. So much so, that I will end post here. Here’s the map:

I know it says 15.96 miles, but I don’t give a crap about that last .04. I did 16!

Well, as I said in the previous post, Amy, Iliana and I went to Branson this weekend. We had a great time and it was a joy to watch Iliana experience the weekend. I learned a lot about Branson this weekend. A lot of “dos” and “don’ts.” I’ll start with the “don’ts.”

  • Don’t stay at the Grand Country Inn again. Not that this was a bad place, but it was a little over priced for the room and I think Iliana and I were both allergic to something in the room because we couldn’t stop sneezing the whole time.
  • Don’t go to Branson on a holiday weekend. I don’t really know what the off season is in Branson, but I know it wasn’t last weekend. It took us 30 minutes to get from the highway to our hotel which was about 2 miles.
  • If we stay on the “strip” again, don’t have a room close to the road. Our wing of the hotel was perpendicular to the strip and there was only one room between us and the strip. So, there was a lot of noise.

Now for the “dos.”

  • Do go and see the Dixie Stampede. Great show and a great meal. Definite must see in Branson.
  • Do check out the Indoor Water Park at the Grand Country Inn. This is the hotel we stayed at. The rooms may have been a little lacking, but the entertainment and food there was great.
  • Do go during the off season. I know I already stated this, but it’s very important.
  • Okay, that’s all I can think of now. We had a blast and wore ourselves out each day and were ready for our beds when we got home.

Well, I had to take a little time off from running. After my 14 mile run, I think I hurt myself a little. I didn’t think much of it at the time and went ahead and ran my 10 miles the following weekend. I couldn’t move for the rest of the day and it was just 10 miles. I had problems with my IT Band, ankle and right knee. So, I figured it was my body’s way of saying, “Slow down!” So, I laid off the running for about a week.

I started running again last Thursday. A friend of mine just moved in down the street from me and he is a distance runner, so, that helps. I think I may be a little slow for him, but he is very gracious and continues to run at my pace. We ran about 5 miles Thursday night and then got up at 6 am for a long run on Saturday. Now, I was a little worried about doing my full 16 miles like I was supposed to this Saturday because I had been off for a week. So my boss (he’s a runner) suggested that I do 8 in the morning and 8 at night. So, I planned for that. Saturday morning was probably the best run I have had since I have been running. Granted it was only 8 miles. The weather was amazing! It felt great! If Chicago is anything like that, I can’t wait!

After the run, me and the family packed up and drove to Branson, MO for the holiday weekend. Very “spur of the moment” kind of thing. More on that later. I was planning on running in Branson, but could just never find the time. So, my fear of jumping back into a long run will be pushed forward to this weekend where I am going to attempt 18 miles. I know, I’m crazy. I have come to the understanding that I may have to walk a little. I always feel like I’m giving up if I walk, so I push through. The only time I have walked on a run was on a very, very steep hill during a 4 mile run.

Anyway, I’ll try to be more proactive on the posts to keep the all of 1 person who reads this updated on my training.

Here’s last Saturday’s run.
